It’s RVP Show, As Arsenal Score Four Past Stoke thumbnail

It was all Robin van Persie in the last game of the season, as Arsenal turned out in style and scored 4 goals past Stoke City. Tony Pulis’ side had won 2-1 against Arsenal at the Britannia Stadium and incidentally, in that game Van Persie was given his marching orders. Arsenal began the game in bright fashion and Arsenal took the lead in the 10th minute. Sagna played a probing ball towards Theo Walcott on the right. The England international turned his man brilliantly and played a square ball to Denilson. The Brazilian’s rasping drive was parried for a corner by the goalkeeper. From the resulting corner, which was taken short by Van Persie, Cesc Fabregas drove the ball hard into the Stoke box, which James Beattie poked inside his own net.  Six minutes later, Van Persie was tripped inside the box by Ryan Shawcross, after the number 11 had weaved his way into the danger area by nutmegging the Stoke defender. The referee had no hesitation in pointing towards the spot and the Dutchman coolly slammed the ball into the top corner. in the 18th minute, Arsenal were awarded a free kick near the right touchline. Van Persie floated the ball into the area and an Diaby rose the highest to head the ball home. 18 minutes and it was 3-0 to Arsenal.  At the half-hour mark, Denilson tripped Ricardo Fuller inside the danger area and it was Fuller himself who converted the penalty for the Potters.  If Stoke thought that was the first sign of recovery, all their hopes were dashed ten minutes later. It was Van Persie again. The Dutchman anticipated Rory Delap’s header back to his keeper, took it on his chest, turned 180 degrees  and thumped home from close range to make it 4-1. Although Arsenal didn’t score in the second half, they came close to scoring on many occassions, with Andrei Arshavin, Nicklas Bendtner, Backary Sagna, Robin van Persie and Carlos Vela all testing the Stoke goalkeeper.
