Arsenal are believed to be preparing a bid worth €14 million for Borussia Dortmund centre back Neven Subotic. The 20-year-old  is 1.93 m  (6 ft 4 in) tall and partners Nemanja Vidic  of Manchester United in the Serbian national team.  Contracted till 2014 with the German outfit, Subotic has made 33 appearances and has scored 6 goals for Dortmund.  Having played for the US Under-17 and Under-20 sides, he made his debut for Serbian national team earlier this year, earning all round praise.  His arrival could solve the height issue facing the Gunners’ defense, as new signing Thomas Vermaelen stands at just 1.82 m (6 ft), with only Johan Djourou matching Subotic in height.  Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has announced that the club will not improve upon the initial offer of €7million made for Bordeaux player Marouane Chamakh. In five months, if he doesn’t prolong his contract, Chamakh will be free to talk to any club and Bordeaux won’t get anything. In the current context, to me, it is over. Let’s say that at the moment it is terminated.  My offer seems fair to me, taking the market into account. Chamakh would be good, but there are other options should we wish to pursue them,” Wenger said.  There are reports that Bordeaux Chairman Jean-Louis Triaud is ready to lower the asking price for the Moroccan striker.  Patrick Vieira has been left out of the French national team ahead of  next week’s World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands. The 33-year-old has been told by coach Raymond Domenech to sort out his future if he wants to play in South Africa. The Inter Milan midfielder has been linked to a move back to Arsenal, where he achieved legendary status among the fans. Domenech said, “We know how important he is for us but Patrick needs to play a lot to feel good and get back to his best level, which is that of the captain of the French team. ‘When he plays for his club, he has to keep playing, multiplying the matches. I really hope he will start playing, whether it’s at Arsenal or Inter, as much as possible because we know his potential. He’s the one who decides which club to join. It’s his life.”
