Following the signing of a short-term deal with the club by Sol Campbell, Swiss defender Philippe Senderos is set to quit Arsenal. This was confirmed yesterday by Arsene Wenger. Addressing reporters yesterday afternoon, Wenger said that he would understand the 24-year-old’s decision if he wanted to move away from the Emirates. “I don’t know if he will leave. It depends on his choice and the opportunities he will have. The target of the football player is not not to play. You expect a player to want to play of course. There is no disappointment there in this situation. I want players to be happy and we manage to make most of them happy here,” Wenger said.
Earlier, Senderos had said that he wanted to quit the club in search of first team football, especially since this was the World Cup year. “I want to go. I need to be playing ahead of the World Cup and I don’t want to play in the reserves any more. I really just want to leave,” he told reporters. Everton and Atletico Madrid are expected to bid for his signature.
